How To Reformatting A Computer

February 3rd, 2010 Admin No comments

Reformatting ComputerReformatting a PC is quite simple using Microsoft Windows XP. First of all is setting up your desktop computer to boot from the CD-ROM. This could be completed in the BIOS menu. Almost all mainboards is providing this menu by pressing delete button from the keyboard while the computer is booting. This will bring you into the BIOS menu. From the BIOS menu, you will have to select the booting sequence and choose the first boot device to the CD-ROM. Once this is done, you can put your Windows XP CD installer into the CD-ROM and reboot the computer. This would take you to the Windows XP installation menu. In the installation menu you can choose how you desire to continue with your installation.

A good piece of advice would be to backup everything before you proceed with the formatting.
Formatting a computer deletes everything on the hard drive, and so if you safe any music or documents that you consider is very important, back them up onto an external hard drive or a CD before you continue.

The first option is installing Windows again together with the existing operating system. This is not the option we want, so i advise you to ignore this selection. You need to select the format option. From Windows XP installation wizard you can select either quick format or regular format. With a 120 GB drive a quick formatting will take about ten minutes to complete, while a regular format needs up to one hour. Quick format would be the good option.

After you select format, all you need to do is wait. If the format process is accomplished you have to get through the steps of Windows installation. After all the process is done your computer will be fresh and as smooth as the day you bought it from the shops.
